- Always drive carefully and slowly through standing water. Tyres can easily lose contact with the road and aquaplaning may occur. If you do experience aquaplaning grip the steering wheel loosely and lift off the throttle until the tyres regain contact with the surface of the road
- You should drive slowly through standing water out of consideration to other road users and in particular to pedestrians. If you soak a pedestrian then you could face a fine and three penalty points on your license which could increase your car insurance premiums
- Driving fast through water can cause damage to your vehicle. The air intake on a car is low down at the front. If water gets into the engine then it will cost you a fortune to get it fixed
- Whilst driving through a flood keep your engine revving as water in the exhaust can cause you to stall
