• 8% of drivers think its more important when driving in the cold that your battery is charged and you have snow chains fitted, than wearing warm clothes

• One in four drivers believes that if you are driving in extreme heat you can cool an overheating engine by turning on the air conditioning in the car. This will in fact divert more warm air into the engine compartment

• If driving in deep flood water one in five drivers believe that you should reverse through in a low gear, drive through very quickly or stop frequently to check the brakes

• When driving in fog 90% of men know that you should drive with dipped headlights, 22% of women believed that you should use main beam

The results of the survey show that many people are not the safe and competent drivers that they believe themselves to be. It is advisable to brush up on the Highway Code every now and again to avoid a car accident that could cause injury and mean that you could no longer get cheap car insurance.
