With Gordon Brown recently announcing plans to punish drivers of big, fuel-guzzling 4x4s, maybe it's about time you looked around for something a little smaller and slightly cheaper.
The sleek, stylish and much more environmentally friendly Peugeot 107 could be a good choice and starting at only £7,145, it won't cause too much damage to your bank balance. Its production was a joint venture with Citroen and Toyota and it hit the shop floors at the end of 2005.
So, hearing rave reports about the 107, and giving us an excuse to get out of the office for a day, CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, the expert providers of car insurance for women, decided to take one for a spin and see if all the rumours were true.
It seems that they were.
Firstly the most important thing- the looks. It really is a unique looking motor with lovely curves and a refreshing chunkiness that you just don't see on other superminis. There are loads of colours to pick from, some of them simply delicious, and they all reflect the individual character of the car.
When you get it on the road, the 107 can get up to a respectable 100mph but is also great for weaving in and out of city traffic. It seems to go forever on a single tank of petrol and you can even get a semi-automatic gearbox for a few extra quid.
It holds the road like a dream and, if you should happen to hit something, it's fitted with side and front airbags. There's also a CD player, speed-sensitive power steering and a whole host of other funky additions and safety features.
As if all this isn't enough, the 107 is a right bargain to insure. It's listed as a group 1E, one of the lowest you can get, so getting cheap car insurance definitely won't be a problem, especially if you buy your policy from a specialist car insurance for women provider.
