With the introduction of new legislation governing the use of child seats in cars, it is important to find out if your car insurance for women policy covers these special seats.
However, a study carried out by Defaqto found that just 11 out of a total of 131 motor insurance providers give cover for booster seats. One such company that does provide this protection is Sainsbury's Bank Car Insurance, which offers "new-for-old" child car seats in the event of an accident.
Lee-Anne Bass of the lady's motor insurance company CoverGirl Car Insurance Services commented:
"When getting car insurance for women, it is always important to check the terms and conditions to find out exactly what you will be covered for should you need to make a claim. Booster seat protection is a great addition for mums, although those who do not have children may not get much use out of it."
Sainsbury's has also issued a warning to women who are considering using a second hand booster seat. A spokesman said, "If using a hand-me-down, parents should ensure they know the seat's history and never use it if it has been previously used in a collision.
"We strongly advise against purchasing second hand seats as it's impossible to know their history," he added.
