Aren't weddings fab? The chance to put your best frock on, devour copious amounts of yummy bubbly and be all soppy and romantic for the day; oh I love 'em.
But research from a car insurance company has shown that a huge number of people leave a sour taste to the day by driving home after having way too much to drink.
Privilege Motor Insurance carried out a study into the driving habits of wedding guests and made several disturbing discoveries. They found that more than 30% of partygoers at the average wedding reception are above the drink-drive limit, while nine percent admit to driving within three hours of finishing their last drink. In addition, a small proportion of those questioned admitted they had consumed more than 10 units of alcohol and still driven home.
The car insurance firm's Ian Parker said, "It is clear that many wedding guests are putting themselves and other road users at risk by being over the legal limit when they head home from wedding receptions.
"Although we want people to have a great time at weddings this summer, we urge guests not to get into their cars until they've allowed sufficient time for the alcohol from the night before to leave their system."
A spokesperson from CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, the women's car insurance experts, warned, "Drinking and driving is an enormously dangerous and irresponsible thing to do.
"You're putting the lives of other road users at risk, and your motor insurance could be invalid if you're involved in an accident."
