Although motorists resent paying exorbitant prices for fuel, new research by car insurance provider, esure.com, has revealed that us Brits will allow petrol costs to double before we start switching to alternative methods of transport.
Not until prices hit £1.83 for a litre will some drivers be prepared to leave their cars in the garage and begin indulging in the joys of public transport. Even with prices reaching such a figure, 55% of people questioned told the motor insurance firm that they would never ditch their cars in favour of travelling on buses, tubes and trains, no matter how pricey fuel becomes.
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure.com, commented on the research, saying, "Nowadays, cars are clearly seen as a necessity that people refuse to give up.
"For many people the absence of cheap public transport means a car is essential in their lives and virtually any price will be paid for petrol."
With fuel prices so high at present, it's lucky that money can be saved on other areas of motoring. As a woman, car insurance can be found for fantastic prices, especially when a specialist car insurance for women provider is used.
Going green can also save you money and some motor insurance firms are beginning to offer discounts to drivers who use environmentally friendly cars.
