Studies have shown that the amount your pay for your car insurance can depend on what area of the country you live in. Whilst car insurance for women tends to be cheaper, it seems that one of the main indicators of the cost of your premium is whether you're from up North or down South!
Motorists living in London pay on average 27% more than the national average. It is thought that the high crime rates in the capital along with the high volumes of traffic have pushed up premiums significantly. The average motorist in London will pay around £563 compared to the average of £442 for Britain as a whole. People in the North West pay the second highest premiums, paying around £541 in motor insurance premiums each year, according to the survey carried out by Tesco Personal Finance.
However, people in East Anglia can take heart in the fact that they live in the cheapest area to insure a car. The annual premium is a miniscule £329, that's a whole 25% cheaper than the national average. The cost of car insurance cover is well below the UK average in Scotland at £335, and in Wales and the South West at £365 and £368 respectively.
The good news for female drivers is that car insurance for women is an average of 10% cheaper than it is for men. It seems that all of our efforts in the safe driving department have paid off. Car insurance for women is cheaper because we cost motor insurance companies less in the way of claims. So, if you are a woman living in East Anglia you can almost afford to retire on the massive savings you make on your car insurance premiums, well almost!
