Car insurance for women premiums have gone up recently because of the new generation of girl racers.
According to a study by confused.com, cheap car insurance for women could be a thing of the past, with 18 per cent of
female drivers aged 21-25 making expensive modifications to their cars.
Car insurance for women policies rose by nearly £8 in the second quarter of this year as women become more aware of how to modify their cars, especially on popular vehicles such as the Mini Cooper.
The research by confused.com showed that popular modifications include having a car lowered by 5cm, a wide exhaust fitted and a rear spoiler attached. All of these alterations will add an increased value to the vehicle and so insurance prices have risen to cover the costs of potential thefts.
Ladies car insurance has always been typically low in the past because female drivers are safe drivers and more likely to have a road accident at low speeds compared to men who appear to crash while travelling faster.
Neil Greg, the head of policy in Scotland for the AA Motoring Trust, said, "We hope that the trend does not mean that women will pick up the bad habits of male drivers who are more likely to commit motoring offences."
A spokeswoman for CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, the expert car insurance for women providers commented, "For woman, car insurance is still really affordable but for those girls that want to jazz up their rides, cheap car insurance premiums could be put at risk."
