2006 has been a bumper year for cheap car insurance for women according to price comparison site moneysupermarket.com.
Research commissioned by the site revealed a staggering 8.2 percent drop in price of the average women's motor insurance premium, down to £654 this year - a saving of £58.
By comparison, men have seen a reduction of 1.7 percent, adding-up to a puny £16 saving on the average 2005 car insurance quote.
Peter Gerrard, senior researcher at moneysupermarket.com, said "The cost for women has fallen much further than for men over the past year.
"This is due to the growing appeal of specialist competitors such as Sheilas' Wheels and Diamond, as well as insurers increasingly reflecting women's safer driving profile into their pricing."
Added to this, both men and women are getting better at finding that elusive cheap car insurance deal online or on the high street.
"Motorists who are prepared to shop around for the best deal each year will always come out on top," said Mr Gerrard.
