Edinburgh may be the perfect destination for a girls' weekend away, but residents in some areas of the city are finding it difficult to find a cheap car insurance deal, motor insurance company Elephant has revealed.
People living in the EH12 postcode, which includes Gyle, Corstorphine, Murrayfield and Roseburn, reported more car crimes in 2005 than any other area in Scotland, resulting in their next car insurance premium being likely to suffer.
The news comes as something of a shock, as EH12 is traditionally a fairly well-off neighbourhood not normally linked with car crime, as Sue Nicholson from the RAC confirms, "I would have expected the more affluent areas to have lower number of claims."
Despite the lack of cheap car insurance that’s going to be available a result of Elephant's findings, Edinburgh girls still live in a wonderful city, as any lucky lady visitor will soon discover.
You can shop till you drop on George Street, popping into Harvey Nichols and some of the posh boutiques or designer shops on the way. Whether your weakness be Armani, Louis Vuitton or French Connection, you can find it all here.
And if you’ve still got some energy left then eligible young men positively ooze out of chic bars such as the Opel Lounge and the Candy Bar, so after a hard day splashing the cash you can almost guarantee yourself a bit of spoiling.
With all its attractions, Edinburgh is well worth a visit. Just be careful where you leave your car, otherwise you could be the one struggling to find a cheap car insurance deal when your current cover runs out.
