Commuters encouraged to car share

Fed-up of sitting in traffic jams every day on the way to work? Sick and tired of finally getting to work only to discover there's no room to park your car? Well you're not the only one.

But there could soon be an end to the morning motoring madness if the Government has its way. Because ministers are planning a big car sharing push, designed to free up space on the roads by encouraging drivers to hitch a lift with colleagues and friends.

When you think about it, it actually makes sense. Think of all the gossiping you can do on the way to work, not to mention being able to have a couple of glasses of wine at lunchtime if it's not your day to drive. Your motor insurance premium should be cheaper too because you'll be doing less miles and so your women's car insurance provider should give you a better deal.

As well as getting cheap car insurance and having the chance for a snooze on the way to work, the environmental benefits of car sharing are enormous. It's simple; less cars equals less pollution. Just think of all those trees you'll be saving.

Sharing with a mate could soon get you to work quicker too, as the Government are beginning to implement plans for car sharing lanes on the motorway. Officially called High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes, trials in South Gloucestershire have resulted in a 12% increase in the number of people buddying-up to use them.

So save some petrol, get a discount on your car insurance and do your bit for Mother Nature, give car sharing a go, you know it makes sense.

*A replacement car can normally be arranged under one of the following conditions: (1) Comprehensive policyholders – a replacement car may be available under the terms of your insurance policy. Please check your policy details for more information. (2) Non fault accident – where we have the name, car registration number and insurance details of the person who caused the accident, we can supply a replacement car. This is done on a credit hire basis which means the costs for this service will be passed onto the insurance company of the person who caused the accident. We may not be able to arrange a replacement car where we are unable to get an admission of liability from their insurance company, or where the driver is untraceable or uninsured. (3) Repair garage – if your car is booked in for repairs following an accident, the repair garage may be able to provide a replacement car (subject to availability).
