A women's car insurance company has stepped in to take over the sponsorship of a TV show after media regulator Ofcom ordered that a condom firm pull out.
Mates had agreed a six figure sum in April 2005 to finance Formula Woman, a reality TV series about motor racing, but Ofcom ruled that the brand’s presence on a Sunday afternoon slot on ITV would be inappropriate and has vetoed the sponsorship.
As a result, Privilege Motor Insurance, a business that specialise in providing women’s car insurance, have taken over the deal.
Mates, an Ansell-owned company, announced it was disappointed with the ruling and Stephanie Surrey, head of marketing, said, "We find it ridiculous that a brand whose intrinsic properties promote health and safety cannot gain the leeway for an appropriate sponsorship opportunity."
Formula Woman is organised by motor sports governing body British Automobile Racing Car, and will air on TV on Sunday 12th February 2005.
