Getting a cheap car insurance for women deal won't be much of an option for a Cambridgeshire woman after she wrecked a shoe shop while drink driving.
25-year-old Marie Aldcroft downed several shots of a potent spirit and argued with her boyfriend before roaring off in her BMW. Speeding through the town of March, she lost control and smashed through the front window of Quirinis Nederpel's Shoe Craft business.
Police who rushed to the scene discovered Aldcroft to be over the drink drive limit and also found that she had no licence or motor insurance. The shop was so severely damaged that it was forced to cease trading. Damage to the premises was estimated at £30,000 and loss of potential earnings were said to be in the region of £190,000.
At Fenland Magistrates' Court she was banned from driving for a year, fined £200 and ordered to pay £300 compensation to the owners of the shop.
A spokesperson from CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, the specialist providers of cheap car insurance for women, said, "It sounds to me like Ms Aldcroft was lucky to avoid a jail sentence.
"If she ever does drive again, she's likely to find cheap car insurance pretty hard to come by."
