A woman who allegedly rammed a police car whilst driving without car insurance said she tried to escape because she had no clothes on.
The incident in Batesville, Indiana, occurred after police officers were informed of a suspicious vehicle in the park of a known-drug dealing area. Deputy Chris Little went to investigate the report and when he approached the Chevrolet Lumina the engine started and it headed straight towards him.
The Deputy managed to leap out of the way, called in back-up and began a pursuit. Two more police cars became involved and all three attempted to surround the fleeing vehicle. Upon being encircled the woman driver of the Chevrolet rammed the patrol car on her left and attempted to escape.
The driver, identified as Miroslava Benton, a bare 31-year-old, was apprehended soon afterwards and arrested. Police allowed her to dress before charging her with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle and driving with no car insurance.
Benton later claimed she was, "running because she didn't have any clothes on." She didn't, however, explain why she happened to be in the buff, but it is understood that there was a male passenger in the car during the incident. He was not charged by police and it is not known if he too failed to have clothes on.
Craig Handy, spokesperson for CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, specialists in car insurance for women, released a statement after hearing about the incident. He said, "There's no excuse for driving without motor insurance, especially nowadays when there are so many fantastically cheap prices for car insurance for women. As for driving without clothes, I wouldn't recommend it."
