A survey of 524 drivers revealed that not one person could name all 12 road signs shown to them. The worst results were amongst hazard signs with only one person in every 12 recognising the sign for side winds. Other signs which many of the participants failed to recognise were slippery road surfaces and uneven road surfaces. In contrast to this every person questioned could name the sign for speed cameras. Men were fractionally better at naming the signs but there was not much in it. Overall men managed an average of 5.6 correct signs and women 5.5.
It is clear that many people would be wise to refresh their knowledge of the Highway Code to improve their driving skills and overall safety. There are many advanced driving courses available which not only help drivers to improve their knowledge of the road but also help make driving cheaper. Those who have taken an advanced driving course can expect cheap car insurance for women. Lots of car insurance companies look favourably upon people who have taken a course to improve their ability and reward them with affordable car insurance.
