A mother-of-two has jeopardised her right to a cheap quote from a specialist provider of car insurance for women after getting drunk and driving at speeds of up to 60mph the wrong way down a dual carriageway.
37-year-old Sonia Wright from Norfolk was more than two-and-a-half times the legal alcohol limit when she drove for 4.8 miles on the wrong side of the A47 near Norwich. She caused a four-car pile up which resulted in the road being closed, and ended up driving on three wheels after one fell off completely.
Admitting driving dangerously and with excess alcohol at Norwich Crown Court, Wright was sentenced to ten months in prison and banned from driving for a total of three years. Judge Peter Jacobs described her drunken behaviour as "a truly appalling piece of dangerous driving, one of the worst I have come across in many years."
He also added, "It was just by pure good fortune that no one was killed or seriously injured. I would be failing in my public duty if you didn't go immediately to prison."
Upon hearing about Wright's case, Craig Handy, spokesman for CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, experts in providing cheap car insurance for women, said, "I can't believe nobody was hurt or killed by this woman's crazy driving, and when she finally gets out of prison she's certainly going to find it difficult to get a cheap car insurance quote."
