A female driver was shocked to find her car set ablaze outside her home just an hour after parking it.
Joan Mulligan of Lanarkshire, found 15ft flames jumping from her Vauxhall Cosa after hearing strange noises coming from the driveway.
Joan and her partner, Robert Evans, 48, tried to douse the flames with a fire extinguisher while waiting for the fire brigade to arrive. Firefighters put out the fire in just 15 minutes and said the blaze was caused by an electrical fault.
Joan contacted Vauxhall the following day to make a complaint and after weeks of waiting for a response, was told to claim on her car insurance.
Car insurance for women is usually cheaper than it is for men. If Joan made a claim on her Vauxhall Corsa and lost her no claims bonus, she could face paying more for her women's motor insurance.
Last year, a similar incident occurred when Suzanne McDowall from Ayrshire found her Corsa ablaze, just hours after parking it outside her office in Paisley.
Joan is still paying £199 per month for the Corsa she bought on finance after trading in her old car, she said, "The car is a write-off, a burnt wreck. I am paying out every month for it but nobody seems to care."
A spokesman for Vauxhall said they were conducting an investigation and commented, "Ms Mulligan has been offered a replacement car of her choice of equal value. We sympathise with any inconvenience she has suffered."
