Us girls might do ok when it comes to motoring, what with women’s car insurance being nice and cheap and polite blokes letting us pull out with just a flutter of our eyelids, but have you ever noticed what a pain in the, er, boobs, a seatbelt can be?
But not anymore. No more digging in, no more rubbing and no more adjusting yourself at 70mph. Because engineers have just revealed that they've designed the first ever female-friendly seatbelt.
92% of women have admitted to tampering with or not wearing their seatbelt because of the discomfort it causes, and so a women’s car insurance company has teamed up with world-renowned engineers to try and tackle the problem.
They've transformed the traditional seatbelt to cater for women’s curves, coming up with a revolutionary design called the 'S-Clip'. It's a simple device that changes the route of the belt to take it down the middle of the chest, directly between the cleavage, instead of it cutting across the breasts. As a result, the clip minimises flattening of the chest and prevents rubbing the neck.
Lisa Bingley, project engineer at MIRA, the firm that designed the clip, said, "Women come in all shapes and sizes and it's great that seatbelt comfort can now be seen in a similar way to a bra or a dress fitting.
"We hope this device aids women to wear their seatbelt in the correct manner in more comfort."
The new 'S-Clip &', which was a joint project with motor insurance providers, Sheila's Wheels, has been subjected to safety tests and should soon be available to buy in the shops.
