Even a specialist provider of women's car insurance might find it tough to offer Lost star Michelle Rodriguez a cheap car insurance deal after the actress was sent to jail for drink-driving.
The 27-year-old Texas-born star chose to pay a fine of $500 and go to prison rather than do 240 hours of community service, after a Hawaiian court found her guilty of committing the offence on December 1st 2005.
Rodriguez, who plays police officer Ana Lucia Cortez in the second series of the hit TV drama, was spotted weaving erratically on the island of Oahu and failed a subsequent breath test. She had been staying in Hawaii for the filming of the show and only minutes later a Lost co-star, Cynthia Watros, was also arrested for drink-driving in a separate incident.
Michelle's lawyer, Steve Barta, revealed that the actress spent two weeks in a rehab clinic shortly after the incident, saying, "She did recognise there was an issue to be dealt with. She on her own took care of it."
But a jail sentence and an alcohol problem may not be the only things on Rodriguez's mind, as it has come to light that she was already on probation for previous motoring offences when arrested in Hawaii. There will be a hearing on her release from prison and if the courts wish they can jail her for a further 16 months.
A spokesman from CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, the women's car insurance specialists, said, "This just goes to show that even the stars will be dealt with severely if they're caught drink-driving."
