A survey has found that more and more women are choosing to look for car insurance online instead of going to high street insurers.
Statistics from an Equi=Media survey show that more than half of consumers now choose the web as their preferred medium for motor insurance. This trend is not just confined to ladies either, with a similar number of men also choosing to get online car insurance.
The survey showed that more and more people are choosing to carry out all three steps of getting car insurance online, these being: researching cheap car insurance firms, getting and comparing quotes and actually buying their motor insurance.
However, the booming online car insurance market has meant that the number of people going to the high street for their motor insurance policy has fallen by 30%.
Another finding of the study that does not bode quite so well for online car insurance firms is that consumers are less aware of web brands. It discovered that almost a third of people who have gone online for a cheap car insurance quote do not remember the name of the motor insurance provider that supplied their quote.
A spokesman for Equi=Media commented: "This increasingly indiscriminate approach when using the web to search for, obtain quotes for, and make a purchase for travel and financial products indicates an ongoing decline in the ability of brands to achieve cut-through and drive direct response online.
"Brands must embrace the changing behaviour of consumers on the internet and improve their techniques to raise brand awareness online."
