Women drivers are probably best known for their cheap car insurance and lower number of car accidents than their male counterparts. However, there are a few quite extraordinary ladies who put their driving skill to the test and take on the males head-to-head on the racing circuit.
Motor racing hasn't always been open to women and most people would not be able to name more than one or two, if any, female racing drivers. However, they are around and their numbers are growing.
One such female racing driver is Melanie Troxel, who takes part in drag races linked with the National Hot Rod Association. She puts her success down to Shirley Muldowney, a legend in the 60s and one of the first women to take part in motor racing.
Melanie said, "Shirley opened doors decades ago and all women have been able to benefit from that."
Lee-Anne Bass of CoverGirl Car Insurance Services commented, "While it is great that there are some girls who race their cars so successfully, it is fair to say that most of us female drivers are content to just cheer them on and enjoy our cheap car insurance premiums."
