A newly qualified driver was spared having her licence revoked after being caught speeding twice in one day.
Sarah Louise McGowen, 22 had recently passed her test when she was caught driving 37mph in a 30mph zone in Hartlepool. In the future, Sarah, will find it difficult to get cheap online car insurance with points on her licence.
After already paying one speeding fine and having three points added to her licence, Sarah was stunned when she received another speeding notice in the post.
She questioned the police about the second fine but was told that she had committed two offences in the same day. As a new driver, Sarah would have paid expensive motor insurance and will face paying even more costly online car insurance with points on her licence.
Sarah's own defense in court was being a new driver, suffering from a difficult private life, "Just three days prior to this incident I split up from my husband and I have a two-year-old bairn to look after."
Chairwoman of the bench, Greta Jackson, said, "Obviously you were going through a fairly traumatic time."
Jackson decided that instead of issuing another three penalty points to her licence, magistrates would impose a short disqualification.
Sarah was given a 28-day driving ban and told to pay a £60 fine. With three penalty points on her licence, Sarah will be searching online car insurance companies for the cheapest possible quote.
