A one-legged pensioner has lost her right to a cheap car insurance deal after an hour-long, 24-mile, low speed car chase through Hampshire.
Sandra Siddle has now been banned from driving and a judge has warned that she faces a possible jail sentence.
The bizarre pursuit began when the 60-year-old blocked in cars at a health centre in Fareham, prompting staff to call police. A policewoman asked the amputee to move but she immediately attempted to mow down the officer, only narrowly missing her by inches.
Roaring out of the car park, the crazed grey-haired woman then led following patrol cars on a 60-minute chase, during which time she didn't break the speed limit once. She overtook on bends, jumped red lights, bounced off the kerb and ignored repeated orders to stop.
She even carried on driving after a stinger device tore the rubber from her tyres and left her trundling along on bare metal with sparks cascading across the tarmac. The chase only ended when Siddle crashed into a lamp post and her car burst into flames.
At Portsmouth Crown Court Siddle- who wears an artificial leg- pleaded guilty to harassment and common assault and was convicted of dangerous driving. She is due to be sentenced next month.
Craig Handy from CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, the online leaders in women's car insurance, commented, "A police chase isn't the sort of thing you'd normally associate with a 60-year-old amputee, but I guess it just goes to show you get all sorts of people on the road."
