Although there are lots of ways of getting cheap car insurance, such as choosing an online motor insurance provider or buying female car insurance, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has suggested something else that would mean savings for motorists.
The society has pointed out that cars are getting safer and safer with new developments in technology, such as electronic stability control, and that drivers who own cars fitted with these safety devices should benefit from cheaper car insurance.
Nigel Wonnacott of SMMT said, "[Millions] of pounds have also been spent on accident avoidance systems, like lane departure warnings, assisted braking, anti-rollover and adaptive headlights which have saved countless lives.
"They've also saved the insurance industry millions of pounds and it's high time that was recognised in cheaper insurance for customers."
The SMMT has suggested that drivers who have active safety systems such as these installed on their car should get around a 15% discount on their motor insurance.
Lee-Anne Bass of the cheap car insurance company CoverGirl Car Insurance Services commented, "This would be a welcome move for women drivers all over the UK. It would mean that, together with a female motor insurance deal, ladies could get an incredibly cheap car insurance rate."
