A desperate woman who attempted to commit suicide in her car has been fined for driving the vehicle without motor insurance.
30-year-old Kelly Jade Brown from Leatherhead pleaded guilty to driving without car insurance and failing to surrender to bail, and was fined a total of £150.
Redhill Magistrates’ Court heard how, on August 24th 2005, a member of the public called the emergency services to report a woman behaving oddly in a silver Ford Escort parked in River Lane in Fetcham.
Ambulance staff and police rushed to the scene and found Miss Brown in an extremely distressed and agitated state, attempting to start the engine and use the exhaust fumes to kill herself.
A police officer managed to prevent the attempted suicide and after a struggle, took Miss Brown into custody.
Any further attempts at suicide have so far failed and Miss Brown was encouraged by magistrates to ensure that she is covered by proper car insurance if she wishes to use her vehicle again.
She also had six points placed on her licence, meaning that getting a cheap car insurance deal may be somewhat difficult in the future.
