Earlier this month Japanese car manufacturer Daihatsu announced they were cutting the price of all their dinky Copen roadsters by a massive £2000, meaning you can know pick one up in the UK for as little as £11,495.
Here at CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, the women's car insurance experts, we'd been hearing rave reviews of this highly original, funky little motor car, so when we were offered the opportunity to take one for a spin, we jumped at the chance.
The first thing that hit me when I saw one in the flesh for the first time was how unbelievably tiny it is; it's absolutely minute. It's actually got a certain resemblance to Noddy's car, and not surprisingly, you'll love it or you'll hate it.
Personally, I fell in love with it straightaway and I couldn't wait to hop inside. Sat in the driver's seat I was pleasantly surprised at how much room I had, and firing up the engine, I was greeted by a lovely throaty growl that belied its Lilliputian 660cc, 63bhp engine.
Out on the country lanes I put the Copen through its paces, and with the wind whistling through my hair and the trees rushing by, I imagined I was Grace Kelly doing her stuff in To Catch a Thief. Until, that was, I looked at the speedometer and realised I was only doing 50mph. There's something about this car - maybe it's the pint-sized dinkiness - that makes you feel like you're behind the wheel of a top-of-the-range Ferrari instead of an eleven grand Japanese Noddy Car.
But my very own mini adventure had to come to an end, and so with hair askew and cheeks aflush I headed back to the office. Reading the spec sheet later on, I was a little shocked to find that the Copen can reach a top speed of 106mph. Now, I like to think of myself as rather daring, but I'm not sure that tearing along at that sort of speed, only millimetres from the ground, and sat in something the size of a Matchbox car, is really intuitive to long-living.
Nevertheless, the little beast is one of the most fun cars that I've ever had the pleasure to drive, and it's guaranteed to turn your friends green with envy. On top of that, it's currently only rated as a motor insurance group nine, which means cheap car insurance shouldn't be too hard to come by.
It gets not only my vote, but that of all the rest of us here at CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, the women's car insurance specialists. So if you do fancy taking a closer look check out www.daihatsu.co.uk today. I reckon you won't regret it.
