Woman fears vendetta after car vandalism

A woman has revealed how she is fearful for the safety of her family after paint stripper was poured over her car during the night.

Kirstie Hardy-Butt believes somebody has a personal vendetta against her, and is now petrified that further damage, or even personal injury, could follow. The 31-year-old told journalists, "I am so worried I can't sleep. Every noise I hear I think they have come back."

Mrs Hardy-Butt, from Stevenage in Hertfordshire, discovered the damage when she emerged from the house in the morning to go to work, and her women's car insurance provider have told her that the £2,280 of damage is more than the vehicle is worth.

The white liquid made the paintwork bubble up and significant repairs and a re-spray will need to be done to return the car to its former state. In addition to the paintwork damage, a front headlight was also smashed.

Mrs Hardy-Butt's car was the only vehicle in the road to be damaged and so she feels she has been specifically picked out by the culprit. She cannot, however, think of any reason why someone would want to target her.

Police are investigating the incident and are currently reviewing local CCTV tapes in attempt to hunt down the vandal. In the meantime, Mrs Hardy-Butt is in talks with her car insurance firm to come to a solution about the repair of her vehicle.

*A replacement car can normally be arranged under one of the following conditions: (1) Comprehensive policyholders – a replacement car may be available under the terms of your insurance policy. Please check your policy details for more information. (2) Non fault accident – where we have the name, car registration number and insurance details of the person who caused the accident, we can supply a replacement car. This is done on a credit hire basis which means the costs for this service will be passed onto the insurance company of the person who caused the accident. We may not be able to arrange a replacement car where we are unable to get an admission of liability from their insurance company, or where the driver is untraceable or uninsured. (3) Repair garage – if your car is booked in for repairs following an accident, the repair garage may be able to provide a replacement car (subject to availability).
