A woman has been forced to make a car insurance claim after a freak car accident saw her nearly drown in a drainage ditch in Lincolnshire.
Ann Thompson was on her way to work during the busy morning rush hour when a car pulled out in front of her near the village of Holbeach St Johns. Slamming on the brakes to avoid a collision, the 54-year-old lost control and skidded across the road. Her T-reg Peugeot 206 mounted the pavement and rolled into a deep water-filled ditch, quickly filling up with dirty water.
Describing the terrifying incident, Mrs Thompson said, "I just remember feeling the car swerve as I braked and the back end coming round. It hit the kerb and then rolled two or three times down the bank into the drain.
"The driver's side started filling up with water. I remember seeing a hand and someone helping to get me out.
"I don't want to think about what could have happened. It doesn't bear thinking about."
After being dragged from the wreckage, Mrs Thompson was strapped to a spinal board and rushed to hospital. Doctors examined her and she was released the same day suffering from nothing more serious than whiplash and cuts and bruises.
A spokesman from CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, the woman car insurance experts, commented, "It sounds like a very lucky escape for this lady. I just hope she's got fully comprehensive motor insurance cover."
