A Bolton woman has won her case after taking motor insurance giant Churchill to court over a £1,500 claim.
Zahida Patel, 30, was involved in a car accident in February 2005. She and her husband were travelling in a friend's car when another driver crashed into them.
She made a car insurance claim for whiplash injuries, but Churchill turned her down. It turned out the other driver denied there had been any passengers in her friend's car and her claim was being ignored as a result.
Regarding her decision to go to court, Mrs Patel's solicitor Shabaz Ahmed said: "This was a David and Goliath situation because they were a big insurance company and we are a small firm.
"I advised Mrs Patel not to pursue the case, because it wasn't worth it for a £1,500 claim. She wanted to go ahead with it out of principal."
And in the end, those principals won out; Mrs Patel emerged victorious after a court appearance earlier this month.
She was awarded £1,515 in compensation and Churchill Car Insurance was ordered to pay court costs.
Lee-Anne Bass, spokesperson for the woman car insurance experts at CoverGirl, said: "It's good to hear this woman got the car insurance compensation she deserved - but it shouldn't have taken a court appearance to make it happen.
Perhaps Mrs Patel will consider switching to a women car insurance firm after her wrangle with Churchill."
