With the exception of the Lycra-clad pit girls, motor racing used to be a sport almost entirely bloke-orientated.
But, according to the latest research from a car insurance firm, more woman than ever before are now aficionados of the sport, with more than a quarter of those surveyed claiming to regularly watch motoring programmes on TV.
The survey undertaken by Mint Motor Insurance also revealed that 15% of women are fans of Formula One and love to watch live coverage from the comfort of their sofa. Some even splash out cash on their hobby and attend Grand Prix's around the world.
Natalie Burnett, a psychology student from Cardiff, told CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, the car insurance for women specialists, of her passion for the sport, saying, "I love Formula One!"
"I can't go every year because it's so expensive, but I do try and save up to go to Silverstone to see the British Grand Prix.
"Jenson Button's my favourite driver. He's yummy and I want to marry him."
In addition to revealing their interest in motor racing, 10% of those questioned by Mint Motor Insurance said they seized every opportunity to get behind the wheel of their own car, even if it means being the designated driver and missing out on a few glasses of wine.
A spokesman from CoverGirl Car Insurance Services said, "It's great that women are getting involved in what used to be a fairly male-dominated sport.
"I just hope they don't start driving like their track heroes, or else car insurance for women won't be cheap for much longer."
