As a woman, car insurance for you is massively cheaper than it is for our male counterparts. And so it should be. You drive slower, you have less accidents and you get involved in fewer testosterone-charged road rage confrontations. Or do you?
Figures recently unveiled by the Home Office have shown that the number of women getting road and traffic convictions has risen by a massive 50% between 1997 and 2005. As a result, the gap between males and females is steadily narrowing, meaning that cheap car insurance for women could one day be a thing of the past.
The addition of countless speed cameras to our roads probably doesn't help, especially when you consider that a speeding conviction can add as much as £196 to the price of an insurance policy, but increasing instances of road rage are beginning to make an impact too.
Road rage is undoubtedly on the rise and both genders are guilty of committing it, although significantly more women than men admit to being victims of it. It is a particularly dangerous phenomenon and when that red mist comes down, thousands of motorists forget how to drive properly and act like blood-lusting lunatics, putting other road users at risk in the process.
At present, as a woman, car insurance is still cheaper than it is for men, but if these rising trends continue then there might one day be no such thing as cheap car insurance for women.
*A replacement car can normally be arranged under one of the following conditions: (1) Comprehensive policyholders – a replacement car may be available under the terms of your insurance policy. Please check your policy details for more information. (2) Non fault accident – where we have the name, car registration number and insurance details of the person who caused the accident, we can supply a replacement car. This is done on a credit hire basis which means the costs for this service will be passed onto the insurance company of the person who caused the accident. We may not be able to arrange a replacement car where we are unable to get an admission of liability from their insurance company, or where the driver is untraceable or uninsured. (3) Repair garage – if your car is booked in for repairs following an accident, the repair garage may be able to provide a replacement car (subject to availability).
