We all know that as a woman, car insurance is usually cheaper for us than it is for a man. But if you happen to live in the Muswell Hill or Crouch End areas of London, you could soon find that cheap car insurance is rather hard to find.
The last few months have seen a spate of thefts of expensive car parts in the area, with sporty BMW bumpers targeted on a regular basis by light-fingered criminals. A multitude of incidents have been reported to police but no arrests have yet been made.
A Crouch End resident who awoke to find that his BMW 330Ci Sport had been stripped of three of its bumpers told reporters, "I find it amazing that no-one could stop or do anything. It must take a good half hour.
"I rang the BMW dealer. They said I was lucky to only have three of them stolen. They said three or four a week happen.
"The likelihood is that as soon as I get them replaced they'll steal them again."
Chris Leptos, a local BMW garage manager, said, "I think what a lot of people do is take the bumpers off and put them on their cars to make them look better.
"It's people making their cars look better. There is no other reason for it. Some people are paying for it out of their own pocket to save their motor insurance premium."
