Women's racing driving is becoming increasingly popular with thousands of females signing up to take part in a Formula Woman competition.
Formula Woman is a championship specifically designed to teach female drivers how to become fully fledged racing drivers in today's competitive environment. If you're a woman, car insurance premiums are cheaper then men's, so it makes sense that women would be good drivers on the racing track.
It used to be only the "brolly dolly" women who got close to the track wearing short skirts and holding an umbrella for the drivers. Jordon famously acted out this role when she was the F1 mascot for Eddie Jordan's team.
Last year, Jenson Button told FHM his opinions of women racing drivers and said how a girl with a big chest, "would never be comfortable in the car. And the mechanics wouldn't concentrate. Can you imagine strapping her in?"
However controversial these comments are, they did sum up a majority of most male opinions of women in the motor sports. Sexism has proven to be a major obstacle but attitudes are starting to change and men are now excited by the idea of new records to be broken.
Formula Woman is a fantastic opportunity to prove why for a woman, car insurance can be a lot cheaper then it is for a man. Since Formula Women began in 2003, the competition has grown at a staggering rate with 10,000 women registering to take part after watching the championship on television.
David Coulthard has openly backed women in the motor sports and said: "There's no reason at all why they shouldn't race with men. There's no physical or reaction reason."
A spokeswomen for Cover Girl Car Insurance Services, the expert car insurance for women providers commented, "Formula Woman is a great opportunity for women drivers to be taken seriously in the motor sports industry and prove their driving skills on the race track."
