Us girls might be able to get a fantastically cheap deal on our women's car insurance, but there's nothing our motor insurance provider can do if we get convicted of speeding.
Even if we've got a sparkly clean, previously unblemished record, our premium could still rocket by as much as 20% if we find ourselves the victim of a speed camera.
In fact, roadside speed cameras have multiplied in such numbers that one in four households in the United Kingdom now has a driver with a conviction, leading to an across-the-board rise in motor insurance prices.
Recent research by AA Car Insurance has revealed that on average, insurance premiums for 25-year-olds increased by £42 after one driving offence and, for 40-year-olds, by £28. For a second offence, motor insurance for 25-year-olds increased by £178, and by £116 for 40-year-olds.
A spokesman for AA Car Insurance said, "Speed kills and that is why insurance companies will push up your premium if you are caught by a speed camera. The hike would be even greater if you were found guilty of a more serious motoring offence."
Craig Handy from CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, the women's car insurance experts, commented, "As much as we try and keep them down, motor insurance premiums have to increase as the result of a speeding offence, so it really does pay to watch your speed."
