A man who spat at a female driver has been sentenced after police tracked him down using DNA evidence.
The court heard how the woman car insurance customer was in a near collision with Michael Atkinson, 24, from Hartlepool, last October.
After their cars nearly collided, Mr Atkinson followed the female driver in his van and became abusive when she pulled over. He spat and swore at her through her window and kicked the rear brake light of her car.
The women was said to be frightened during the attack but remained calm and locked her car doors.
Police traced Mr Atkinson using DNA evidence taken from saliva samples on the windscreen and found that he had been driving whilst disqualified.
He was sentenced to 200 hours community service by Hartlepool Magistrates' Court and was banned from driving for a year. In the future, he may find it difficult to get cheap car insurance.
By staying calm during the attack, the woman car insurance customer demonstrated just why women are able to get cheap ladies car insurance.
