The cost of women’s work is £17,407 per year
New research by Sainsbury’s Bank shows that it would cost around £17,407 to get hired help to carry out all the household tasks that women no longer have time for. Many women take responsibility for most of the household tasks, including childcare, in addition to a full time job.
When they decide to return to work after having children, many women are still expected to pay the bills, pick up the kids and do the cleaning. If someone else was paid to execute these jobs then there would be a hefty price tag.
Women make a large proportion of the household spending decisions and are responsible for organising the car insurance, household insurance and life cover.
Women aren’t alone though as most men also carry out a huge range of tasks around the home from fitting the new kitchen to taking out the bins. The cost of hiring someone to carry out the men’s work would reach around £11,900 per year.
