Women are better drivers - it’s official

As a woman, car insurance should be fairly inexpensive for you anyway, but new research has discovered the optimum age at which to get extra cheap car insurance.

Boffins at Canada's University of Calgary have revealed that as an age group, women in their late twenties and early thirties are the safest and most responsible people on the road, reaching their most careful at the age of 33.

Only four fatalities occur for every billion kilometres driven by 33-year-old women, which is in huge contrast to the 40 road deaths per billion kilometres for 20-year-old males. But men aren't all bad, and those between the ages of 33 and 54 are the safest, having only eight deaths for every billion kilometres they drive.

According to the road safety study, the over-80s had the largest death and accident rate for both men and women, although University staff claimed the statistics were distorted by the small numbers and low mileage of drivers.
