PCP schemes
A Personal Contract Purchase Scheme is like a loan but at the end of the agreed term you can choose from a variety of options. You can either hand back the keys to the car, part exchange the car for a newer model or make a final payment, known as a 'balloon' payment (which is otherwise known as a Minimum Guaranteed Future Value or MGFV) and the car is then yours to keep.

The PCP scheme is popular with car buyers as the payments are kept relatively low. PCPs can also be arranged that will cover servicing and the maintenance of your car. This is useful as you can more or less forget the cost of running your car as it is covered in one easy monthly payment.

Unfortunately this deal which sounds too good to be true, does have a couple of pitfalls. If the value of the car drops quite a bit then you could end up with little or no cash to put towards a new car at the end of the term.
