If you are a woman, car insurance is a great deal cheaper than is it is for a man. We save women money on their car insurance every day because we don’t believe in subsidising male drivers who are known to cause higher value car accidents and therefore higher value car insurance claims. You can however have a male named driver on your policy.
We also save women drivers money because we have cut back our overheads. We have established ourselves as an online brand and as such we don’t have an expensive high street branch or a large call centre to pay for. We also avoid advertising in the media as the cost can run to thousands of pounds per second of an advert. We prefer to attract customers via our online presence.
We like to think of ourselves as a time saving device, as we have designed our site to be completely efficient. We hope that all our customers can get the cheaper car insurance quote they’re after within a few minutes of reaching the homepage. We do this by not asking you to fill in pages and pages of forms. We’ll only ask you the basics. So, for a woman, car insurance is quick, easy and cheap, what more could you need?
Well, we know that owning a car can be confusing so we offer lots of tips and advice about car ownership, safety, news, car insurance and more. Here are a few safety tips about your tyres and how the law affects you.
Tyres and the law
In the UK the law states that you must have the correct tyres for your car, suitable for the purpose of your vehicle and that they are properly fitted. The tyres must also be inflated to the manufacturers specified pressure. You can find this on the inside of the driver’s door when it is opened.
The legal limit for minimum tread depth is 1.6 millimetres (mm) across the central ¾ of the tread around the complete circumference of the tyre. For safety it is recommended that you replace your tyres before they reach the legal minimum. Many motoring organisations recommend that you replace the tyres when the tread reaches 2 mm. Some manufacturers recommend that you replace the tyre at 3mm. Braking distances can be increased dramatically with a decreased tread depth. Make sure you check your tyres regularly and you can avoid getting 3 points on your licence. You may also receive a £2,500 fine if your tread is below the level specified by law.
You must also ensure that you don’t have two different types of tyre on opposite sides of one axle. The tow main types of tyre are radial and cross ply. You should check your manufacturer handbook to see which tyres you can use, or alternatively speak to your mechanic.
