MOT - Information from the AA

• A valid MOT certificate must be held for every vehicle that has been registered for three years or more. This requirement begins on the third birthday of your car

• The cost of an MOT is as follows:
  
  • Car: £44.15
    
  • Solo motorcycle: £23.80
    
  • Three – wheeler: £30.40

• An MOT certificate is valid for 12 months unless it has been through the test in the month before the expiry date of the certificate. If this is the case then the new expiry date will be 12 months from the expiry date of the current certificate

• An MOT certificate is not needed when you are taking a vehicle to or from an MOT. This is by prior agreement only

• Using a vehicle without an MOT certificate carries a maximum penalty of £1000

• If the vehicle can carry more than 8 passengers then the fine increase to £2,500

• Failing to produce an MOT certificate to a police officer also carried a fine of £1000

• Conviction for any of the offences above will result in penalty points being put on the licence
