The woman's car insurance buyer who lost her car for two years

When you're making a claim for a stolen car on your womans car insurance it is wise to check all possible places that a car could be. Of course many people would say that a car is a difficult thing to misplace as it's not likely to slip down the side of the sofa or be put into the wrong cupboard with saucepans by mistake. Or is it?

In Germany, in 2007, an elderly female driver sent her car for a service with her local mechanic who agreed that when finished he would drive the car back to her apartment block and park it in her garage, posting the keys and an invoice through her letterbox.

When the woman next went to use the car she was astonished to find the garage empty and she immediately called the police.

The car was not found by police and so, it was assumed stolen. The woman driver made a claim with her car insurance company who paid her a sum of money in respect of the value of the missing car.

What the police had failed to do, however, was search the 39 other garages on the complex as, two years later, the woman's neighbour opened up his garage to find the so-called stolen car dusty yet undisturbed in his seldom used lock-up.

Police suggested that the woman's car insurance company would expect to have the monies repaid, but told reporters that the 82-year-old female driver would not have to pay back interest on the sum.

Woman's car insurance and making a claim
Although this particular false claim was seemingly a genuine mistake, car insurance claimants are warned that making a false stolen vehicle report is considered a fraudulent act and will carry heavy penalties if the matter goes to court.

Likewise, if a vehicle is reported stolen and it is later proved that the car was left with the keys in, unlocked or with open windows then this will also invalidate the claim. If the claimant has told insurers that the car was secure this may also be deemed fraudulent.
