Long term storage of your car

• Lock your car away in a garage or lock up if possible
  
  
• Make sure your battery is charged. If you are going to be away from the
  car for a long time and you are not using an immobiliser or alarm then
  disconnect the earth strap to prevent that battery from losing charge
  
  
• If it is winter put anti freeze into your radiator. You should use this at other
  times of the year also as many coolants (anti freeze) have anti corrosion
  properties which will help protect and lubricate your cooling system. You
  should use 50/50 anti freeze and water. Run the car for a while so that it
  runs through the whole system before it is left
  
  
• Change the engine oil. Dirty oil contains acids and water which can cause
  rust to occur within the engine
  
  
• Wash the whole car and apply a good wax. This should be done early in
  the day so that the car has time to dry off before you put it under cover
  
  
• Remove all valuables from the car. The most insignificant object can be a
  target for thieves if it is visible. It goes without saying that you should
  take out money, laptops, stereos, bags and other valuable objects
  
  
• Use a car cover to protect the car from the elements, bird droppings and dust
  
  
• Fit a steering lock that can be seen from outside the vehicle
