Over the years there have been a number of television adverts telling viewers how they can save money on their car insurance and although we at CoverGirl might not have our own adverts to boast about, we still enjoy watching the antics of other insurance providers.
Since car insurance has been around, companies have tried their best to anchor in potential customers with wacky advertising campaigns. We choose not to have our own adverts but still, like most women sat at home watching their favourite television programme, we can't help but notice the many motor insurance adverts during the commercial break.
The first car insurance adverts
Direct Line was one of the first companies to advertise their services on the television. The insurance provider offered all type of policies for its customers including home, holiday and of course car insurance.
Over the years, their adverts have remained in the minds of many car insurance customers, who have come to recognise their brand almost immediately after seeing the red Direct Line telephone on the television screen.
Like most companies who have branched out by using the internet, Direct Line also added an extra companion for the telephone; a little red mouse now reminds people that they can also get their car insurance quotes at the click on a button.
Women's car insurance adverts
The first memorable advert which sold car insurance specifically for lady drivers was Diamond. The initial adverts were kept simple with two women eating in a restaurant, discussing car insurance and a waitress who recommends that they shop at Diamond for cheap motor insurance quotes. Over the years, Diamond's adverts appeared to have died down on the TV, making way for a brand new type of woman car insurance advert. We are, of course, talking about Sheilas' Wheels.
When the Sheilas' Wheels advert first hit our screens, not many people would have believed that it would become such a massive phenomenon. The adverts, which show three Australian women dressed in pink sparkly dresses, driving a pink Sheilamobile, has had such a huge following of fans that when the car insurance company opened a competition to appear in one of the adverts, thousands of female drivers applied.
The advert also has one of the catchiest theme tunes that car insurance commercials have ever offered. The lyrics are as follows:
"For ladies who insure their cars, Sheilas' Wheels are superstars, Girls are bored beyond endurance, Payin' too much for car insurance, For bonzer car insurance deals, Girls get onto Sheilas' Wheels. Women make the safest drivers, We could save a bunch of fivers, For bonzer car insurance deals, Girls get onto Sheilas' Wheels!"
Wacky car insurance adverts
Some of the best motor insurance adverts have been targeted at woman car insurance customers but from time to time our TV screens have pictured some rather wacky insurance adverts, for all genders and ages, which often include a character of some sort.
http://www.elephant.co.uk - The most recent adverts for elephant car insurance have displayed two men in a studio-based jungle talking about car insurance when they stumble upon a person dressed in a giant elephant suit. Some people might ask what an elephant has to do with car insurance nut nethertheless you still remember the advert.
http://www.admiral.com - Admiral is another car insurance company that has character. The friendly man dressed as an admiral tells viewers how to get a cheap car insurance quote with the help of his trusty parrot sidekick.
http://www.hastingsdirect.com - A very well-spoken man, otherwise known as Harry, has reappeared lately on TV telling us how Hastings Direct can give customers even cheaper car insurance. This cartoon character sings the company's phone number in a very catchy tune that will have most drivers singing it all day long.
So there you have it, these are just some of the most memorable car insurance adverts that have staged a presence in our sitting rooms around the country. Whether you decide to take out a policy with a woman motor insurance provider or decide to let your partner handle a shared policy, there is no doubt that you would have searched around for the best quote available for your vehicle.
We may not have a fictitious character or catchy tune, but with the savings CoverGirl makes by deciding not to create our own advert, we're able to offer women car insurance customers extremely affordable motor insurance.
*A replacement car can normally be arranged under one of the following conditions: (1) Comprehensive policyholders – a replacement car may be available under the terms of your insurance policy. Please check your policy details for more information. (2) Non fault accident – where we have the name, car registration number and insurance details of the person who caused the accident, we can supply a replacement car. This is done on a credit hire basis which means the costs for this service will be passed onto the insurance company of the person who caused the accident. We may not be able to arrange a replacement car where we are unable to get an admission of liability from their insurance company, or where the driver is untraceable or uninsured. (3) Repair garage – if your car is booked in for repairs following an accident, the repair garage may be able to provide a replacement car (subject to availability).
