Sometimes, when not contemplating car insurance for women, it's nice to think about just driving and the joy that can be had by getting in your car and going somewhere - anywhere - for the sheer pleasure of it. I was recently fuelled in my thoughts by a post on cararticles.co.uk in which the author asked readers where they would go if they had their last tank of fuel - not just until their next pay packet, but the absolute final drops of precious unleaded that they would ever fill their beloved vehicle with.
Now, many of us would probably not necessarily consider the distance we would go, but be more mindful of the destination's position in our psyche, so, for me, the first choice was easy. And it would only use around a third of a tank which would mean I'd have enough to go onwards - perhaps into the unknown.
And while we're thinking about the single tank idea, I realise those of you with the lovely eco-friendly hybrid cars would probably go a lot further than me in my mean green (colour only I'm afraid) family moving machine. In fact, in April 2009, the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid and seven able drivers set a new world record by travelling 1,445.7 miles on a single tank of fuel. WOW!
Granted, they made the most of the car's ability to operate in electric-only mode by travelling at the leisurely and possibly road-rage inducing speed of between 20 and 45mph, but with this prudent driving and excellent use of the car's battery they managed a staggering average fuel efficiency of 81.5 mpg over 69 hours of continuous driving. I bet they get cheap car insurance too!
Ok, back to the real world - my last tank of fuel would take me from my south coast home up past Basingstoke and on to the M4 where I would leave at Newbury and head on the A419 to the Cotswold Water Park near Cirencester. It's one of the most lovely places I know, and filled with memories of joyous family holidays and fun summer days. What's more, now the road works at Swindon have been completed you can literally sail up the A419 without batting an eyelid.
As I've said this journey would leave me with quite a bit of fuel left, so, let's see where would I go next?
I'm not sure if it would get me there, but having recently driven up to Sheffield to watch some athletics at the Don Valley stadium, I would definitely head in that direction. I would try to get as close to Barnsley as possible as that is the home of one of my all time favourite beers - Barnsley Gold.
And before you berate me for advocating that alcohol and driving can in any way be associated, let me remind you that I have just driven my last ever journey and I am forever destined to stay at this final destination. I have bought my last ever car insurance for women policy and have hung up my Paul Smith leather driving gloves (in Swirl pattern - gorgeous), I can now drink as much as I wish and try all the glorious northern beer that I like.
But remember, I've chosen Barnsley as my destination - I might just get the train home after all.
