Looking back at films over the last several decades, there are a number of Volkswagens featured in movies, especially the much loved VW Beetle. Although you may not have spotted them straight away, I'm sure you'll remember every single one of them when we go through the film archives. Whether you're the owner of a Golf, Touran, Touareg or Polo, there's no denying that most of you would like to own a VW Beetle and who wouldn't? Being such a fun, well designed and mechanically sound vehicle, there's every reason to want one. If you can't get hold of one just yet, why not take a look at some of the most beautiful Beetles that have ever graced our screens.

Herbie films
Without doubt, the series of Walt Disney films about a car called Herbie are most definitely the most favourable use of the VW Beetle among Volkswagen car insurance customers. The film is about a car that has a mind of its own and is able to drive itself without the need of a human controlling it.

There have been a series of Herbie movies made since the 1960s including The Love Bug (1969), Herbie Rides Again (1974), Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo (1977), Herbie Goes Bananas (1980) and the recent re-make starring Hollywood Actress Lindsay Lohan, Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005).

Did you spot the Volkswagen Beetle?
Apart from the great catalogue of Herbie films, a number of other filmmakers have chosen to use VW Beetles in their films.

If you've made savings on your motor insurance and want to splash out on a DVD that's got a Beetle in it, why not get the 2005 re-make of the 1960s television series Bewitched, which features comedy actor Will Ferrell along with a brand new yellow Beetle.

Other films to feature the famous car include the 1999 film Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shag*ed Me, where the spy with bad teeth uses a modern colourful convertible Beetle, which has the licence plate SWINGER2.

And its not just movies that feature Volkswagen Beetles, a number of popular television programmes have included a VW in the plot. Such shows as Smallville, Scrubs, One True Hill and Charmed have all used a Beetle at some point or another.

Music videos and games
You'll be surprised to see just how many different companies have thought about using a Beetle to promote their image and get people excited about their brand. Some of the many music stars to use a Volkswagen Beetle in their videos include Mandy More's video "Candy" in 1999, Barenaked Ladies' "Call and Answer" in the same year and the 2001 video by A*Teens "Upside Down".

There's also been several different video games featuring the VW Beetle including the 1999 game Beetle Adventure Racing for the Nintendo 64. Another game, which you don't need a computer to play is called Punch Buggy. In this somewhat violent game, children hit another participant upon sighting of a VW Beetle.

So there you have it, a look back at a number of films, music videos and games that have all featured Volkswagen Beetles. If you're thinking about treating yourself to a Beetle, whether brand new or classic, I'm sure these snippets of the car will be enough to get you searching the internet for cheap Volkswagen car insurance.
