Men. Just what is it with the whole 'Man Flu' thing? Do you really feel that much worse than us women or are you all just a bunch of big babies?
Considering that fellas are supposed to be the stronger of the two sexes, it's hilarious how often they're reduced to snuggling up on the sofa with a cold, hoping that anybody who passes them will rub their hot head and say, "There, there, it's ok."
But it's not ok. For centuries, men have gone off to battle in their heavy armour, waving their swords around and pointing their guns, but when the modern man develops a slight sniffle he's left bed-ridden for weeks on end. I mean, what's that all about?!
The difference between male and female colds
Let's look at how men and women cope differently when suffering from a
cold. Your everyday woman will continue working; she'll still manage to
pick up the kids from school, cook the dinner and complain maybe once
or twice that she's got a cold.
In stark contrast, men feel a slight tingle in their nose and they start complaining. They'll develop a high temperature and repeatedly ask everyone around them to feel just how hot their forehead is. The next stage involves a change in voice; they slur their speech and they're unable to finish sentences properly. At the same time they struggle to open their eyes and insist on staying in bed 24/7.
What the experts say
According to statistics carried out by Nuts magazine, 64% of the 2,000
men they studied thought they had flu and took a day off work, compared
to just 45% of women. The findings also showed that men are the ones to
splash out more money on remedies with 82% admitting they would stay in
bed until they felt better.
A spokesperson for Nuts magazine said: "Our womenfolk must go that extra mile to care for us when we are stricken. (That way) cars and football stadiums throughout the land can be well attended."
Conclusion
It appears that even though females are more likely to develop a cold
from their interaction with children, who often fall victim to odd sniffle,
it's the hardworking men that need 24 hour care the moment their body
temperature raises above the norm.
Maybe some men just like to overplay it so they can take some well-deserved time off work and watch a little Jeremy Kyle and This Morning on the sofa. With the possibility of having a woman in the household to provide private medical care at no added cost, it would seem like only a fool would turn such an opportunity down.
For any blokes out there who want to avoid 'Man Flu', why not get yourself down to your local doctor's surgery and get a flu jab? That way, you definitely will reduce your chances of getting the actual flu. But, until then, stop moaning will you boys.
