Motor insurance savings a bonus when it comes to protecting your children

Every parent wants the peace of mind that their child will be safe in the event of a car accident, and with it being the law that you have to provide a child seat for your little one, there shouldn't be a problem. However, some people find it difficult knowing what seat is best for their child, that's why we at CoverGirl Car Insurance Services have come up with a useful guide to help you.

If you don't want to risk claiming on your motor insurance for personal injures following a road accident, make sure that both you and our child are travelling safe. For children, child seats could be the one element that might save their life but how do you know which seat to buy? To start with, you'll need to know that child seats are usually categorised by "Stages". The different stages can be seen below.

Stage 1 = 0 and 0+
Stage 2 = Group 1
Stage 3 = Group 2
Stage 4 = Group 3

Just as it is easy to search for online motor insurance, you can easily find the right car seat for your child; it just needs a little research. The information below tells you about the different groups which are categorised by age and weight.

Rearward-facing baby seat
Group 0: for babies up to 10 kgs (22lbs) approximately from birth to 6-9 months
Group 0+: for babies up to 13 kgs (29lbs) approximately from birth to 12-15 months

These seats can be used in the front or the rear of the vehicle and will protect your baby's head, neck and spine in the event of an accident. To reduce the risk of having to claim on your motor insurance following a crash, make sure the seat is not placed in the front of the car if there is an airbag present.

Forward-facing child seat

Group 1: for children weighing 9-18 kgs (20-40lbs) approximately 9 months-4 years

When your child has outgrown the rearward-facing seat, the forward-facing seat is the next option. The integral harness will reduce the possibility of your child sustaining injuries, especially as the harness has an attachment between the legs that will prevent your child from sliding forward. This is good news if you don't want to lose your no claims discount on your motor insurance.

Booster seats and booster cushions
Group 2: for children weighing 15-25 kgs (33-55 lbs) approximately 4-6 years
Group 3: for children weighing 22-36 kgs (48-79lbs) approximately from 6-11 years

Booster seats and cushions don't have an integral harness and your child will be restrained by a normal fitting seat belt. To reduce the danger of needing to claim on your motor insurance for personal injuries, seats with side wings are also a good way to prevent injuries, especially from a side impact.

We hope that this has provided you with some useful information when it comes to shopping for a child seats. If you need more information on the subject visit HYPERLINK "http://www.childcarseats.org.uk" .
