Ladies are being advised to safeguard their cheap car insurance for women by not leaving Valentine's Day gifts on display in their cars.
Bedfordshire Police have been running a campaign with the slogan "Don't kiss goodbye to your valuables this Valentine's Day" in order to cut down on car crime in the county.
The police are warning that venues such as restaurants, beauty spots and pub car parks are favourite areas for thieves to operate, especially on nights when there are expensive presents being exchanged.
Inspector Mulvaney, of Bedfordshire Police, commented: "Opportunist thieves will not think twice about wrecking someone's special night out or day in the country by smashing a car window and grabbing something from inside.
"Our advice is to park in well-lit and busy areas and remove absolutely everything from vehicles."
He went on to say that practising good car security is less hassle than the alternative, which includes dealing with a motor insurance company, arranging repairs and being without a car.
Also, ladies who do have to claim on their motor insurance after a theft will find it will affect the cost of their car insurance for women for years to come.
