A reluctant car owner from California has been arrested after it emerged she tried to defraud her woman car insurance company.
The 53-year-old bought a brand new Ford Focus in November 2005, and instantly regretted the decision.
So desperate was she to be rid of the car, the woman hid it at her brother's house and then reported it stolen to the police and her car insurance firm, in hopes she might receive some compensation money.
Sadly, she had reckoned without a hi-tech tracking device fitted to the Focus, which meant police were able to trace its whereabouts within a day. The lady's car insurance company filed charges against her soon afterward.
"She must have really hated that car," said Lee-Anne Bass, spokesperson for the woman car insurance experts at CoverGirl Car Insurance Services.
