Though women are queuing up for a place in Britain's first female-only racing team, few if any will be able to match the experience of its first honorary member: a 69-year-old from Lancashire with a string of motoring successes to her name.
For many motorists, the rising price of even car insurance for women in their old age means that giving up your car seems like the right thing to do - but this lady is a notable exception who shows no signs of slowing down as she approaches her seventieth year.
As a semi-finalist in the now legendary Formula Woman racing series, she has bested the competition of hundreds of other woman and continues to race to this day.
FemTrack, the racing team of which she is now a proud member, was formed with the intention of giving women a fun and safe route into the world of motorsport.
"FemTrack gives women the opportunity to get out onto race tracks around the country with highly qualified instructors in a safe environment," said a representative.
"Not only will they have fun - they will become better and safer drivers," she added.
"Sounds like joining a club like FemTrack could be a benefit if you're after cheap car insurance for women," said Lee-Anne Bass, spokesperson for the online car insurance team at CoverGirl.
